Published · prices checked October 26, 2026
Key takeaways
- Rosie costs $149 a month from 3 to about 11 three-minute calls a day, then $299 at 13 a day, where Goodcall, NextPhone and Upfirst cost less (prices checked October 26, 2026).
- At 3 calls a day six alternatives cost less than Rosie, led by Upfirst at $59.95.
- At 50 and 80 calls a month Rosie's Professional plan, $49/month for 250 minutes, costs less than every alternative in our table, but it lists no call transfers.

Rosie costs $299 a month at 13 three-minute calls a day, and three alternatives in our table cost less at that volume: Goodcall at $129, NextPhone at $199 and Upfirst at $227.45 (prices checked October 26, 2026). At 3 calls a day Upfirst costs $59.95 against Rosie's $149.
What does Rosie cost?

Our arithmetic: each vendor's cheapest published plan for that volume plus its published overage, at 3-minute calls over 30 days. Goodcall bills per unique caller; we count every call as a new caller. Taxes, setup fees and add-ons are not included. How we price.
At 13 calls a day Goodcall costs the least, then NextPhone and Upfirst. Phonely's range runs from below Rosie's price to above it, and the other four cost more than Rosie. NextPhone's is the only bill that does not move from 13 to 26 a day. Rosie's largest plan, Growth, covers 2,000 minutes, about 22 calls a day, and no rate past it is published, so its 26-a-day cost cannot be computed.
At 3 calls a day Rosie falls back further. Upfirst, Phonely, Goodcall, My AI Front Desk, Dialzara and RingCentral AI Receptionist all cost less. Smith.ai and NextPhone cost more.
Below 3 calls a day: Rosie's Professional plan
The table starts at 3 calls a day, where Rosie is already on Scale. Below that, Professional covers 250 minutes, which is 83 three-minute calls with every call rounded up. At 50 and 80 calls a month the order flips in Rosie's favor:
| Service | 50 calls a month | 80 calls a month |
|---|---|---|
| Rosie | $49 | $49 |
| Phonely | $50 | $60 to $64 |
| Upfirst | $54.95 | $59.95 |
| Dialzara | $72.20 | $108 |
| RingCentral AI Receptionist | $74 | $119 |
| Smith.ai AI Receptionist | $75 | $162.50 |
| Goodcall | $79 | $79 |
| My AI Front Desk | $99 | $99 |
| NextPhone | $199 | $199 |
At both volumes Rosie costs less than every AI receptionist in this table. Two things temper that. Professional's card lists "Send appointment links by text" but not calendar booking, warm transfers or live call transfers, which start on Scale (heyrosie.com/pricing, read October 26, 2026). And Professional has no room for a busy month.
One busy month on Rosie, and on the alternatives
Rosie has no overage rate. Its terms: "Rosie will automatically upgrade the Subscriber to a higher Subscription Plan to cover the additional Services Minutes usage."
The upgrade then holds. Changes that add fees "apply to the then-current monthly billing period and at least the subsequent two consecutive billing periods" (heyrosie.com/legal/terms, read October 27, 2026). One month past 250 minutes on Professional means three bills at $149/month for 1,000 minutes.
The alternatives charge for a busy month in that month only:
- Upfirst: the extra calls at the plan's rate, $1.50 a call on Starter.
- Goodcall: the extra callers at the plan's rate, $0.79 a caller on Starter.
- Phonely, My AI Front Desk, RingCentral AI Receptionist: the extra minutes at the plan's per-minute rate.
- Dialzara: extra minutes if you turned on auto-recharge; voicemail if you did not.
- NextPhone: nothing, since no plan has an allowance.
Live virtual receptionists against Rosie
At 100 three-minute calls a month the lowest-cost live virtual receptionist we price, ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus, costs $260, against Rosie's $149; Posh costs $630. A live receptionist answers with a person's judgment, and the gap is what it costs: see virtual receptionist pricing. One full-time hire on the BLS median wage costs $4,399 a month, 14.7 times Rosie at 13 calls a day (hire vs AI receptionist).
What each alternative does better and worse than Rosie
Goodcall
Better: at 13 calls a day Goodcall costs $170 a month less than Rosie, and callers who ring back are counted once a month.
Worse: no trial, where Rosie offers 7 days, and Starter allows one team member. Under 83 calls a month Goodcall's $79 is above Rosie's Professional plan.
Upfirst
Better: at 3 calls a day Rosie costs 2.5 times Upfirst, and at 13 a day Upfirst costs $227.45 against Rosie's $299. Calls under 15 seconds cost nothing, where Rosie bills each one as a minute.
Worse: inside Scale's band Rosie can cost less: at 10 calls a day Upfirst costs $159.95 against Rosie's $149. A busy month bills every extra call.
NextPhone
Better: no allowance and no upgrade rule. Rosie costs more than NextPhone from about 334 calls a month, when 1,000 minutes run out; at 13 calls a day NextPhone costs $100 a month less.
Worse: at 3 and 5 calls a day NextPhone costs $50 a month more than Rosie.
Phonely
Better: at 3 calls a day Phonely costs $67.50 to $74.50, and its free plan covers 100 minutes a month.
Worse: its pricing page publishes no rounding rule, and at 13 a day it costs $292.50 to $389.50, a range that runs from below Rosie's $299 to above it.
My AI Front Desk
Better: at 3 calls a day it costs $106.50. Going over draws on a credit pool billed per minute, not a three-month plan change.
Worse: at 13 a day it costs $33 a month more than Rosie.
Dialzara
Better: per-second billing: "partial minutes are not rounded up" (dialzara.com/pricing, read October 27, 2026). On short calls its minutes last longer than Rosie's.
Worse: at 5 calls a day it costs $199, at 13 a day $408.50, both above Rosie.
RingCentral AI Receptionist
Better: rounds to 30 seconds, where Rosie rounds to 60, and has a 14-day trial.
Worse: at 13 calls a day it costs 2.0 times Rosie.
Smith.ai AI Receptionist
Better: a handoff to Smith.ai's live receptionists, charged per call.
Worse: it costs more than Rosie at every volume in the table: $695.30 at 13 a day.
Where Rosie is still the better buy
Under about 80 calls a month on Professional, if you do not need transfers or calendar booking. At 50 and 80 calls a month it costs $49, less than every AI receptionist in the table above.
From about 5 to 11 calls a day, if your volume swings. Scale holds at $149, below My AI Front Desk, Dialzara, RingCentral AI Receptionist, Smith.ai and NextPhone at 5 a day.
English and Spanish callers. Every plan lists "English & Spanish on every call" (heyrosie.com/pricing, read October 26, 2026).
Which alternative fits which situation
- Best at 13 calls a day: Goodcall. $129, the least in the table. No trial.
- Best at 3 calls a day: Upfirst. $59.95, the least in the table, with nothing billed under 15 seconds.
- Best for unpredictable spikes: NextPhone. No allowance and no upgrade lock, at $50 a month more than Rosie at 5 a day and $100 less at 13.
- Best for short calls: Dialzara. Billed to the second. It costs more than Rosie from 5 calls a day.
How to switch from Rosie
Cancel in the dashboard; access runs to the end of the billing cycle. Rosie's help center adds that you "will be charged for any minute overages for the month" and "can turn off your Rosie forwarding at any time to avoid overage charges" (heyrosie.com/support, read October 27, 2026).
So move the forward to the new vendor first, then cancel. Fees already paid stay with Rosie: on cancelling it will "retain any Fees you have already paid" (terms, read October 27, 2026).
If Rosie hosts your number, port it out promptly: "Rosie reserves the right to release or reassign any telephone numbers not ported back within three months after termination" (heyrosie.com/legal/terms, read October 27, 2026).

How these numbers were made
Every vendor price on this page was read from the vendor's own pricing page on the date in its Source cell and saved as a dated capture. Monthly costs use each vendor's cheapest published plan for the volume plus its published overage, at 3-minute calls. The in-house figure uses the BLS median wage for receptionists over 2,080 paid hours (paid leave included), other employer benefit costs and turnover, each from the BLS release named below. Vendors that hide prices stay in the tables as quote only. We do not test answering quality and publish no ratings.

Changes to these prices
- Upfirst: cancellation notice recorded as none. Its pricing FAQ says "You can cancel, upgrade, or downgrade anytime, no questions asked," the same strength as other cancel-anytime terms. Its setup-fee summary now reads "None stated": no page says there is no fee. No price changed.
- My AI Front Desk: the 1,000 monthly overage credits its pricing page lists as included ("Extra credits you get each month in case you go over your included usage") now count as 40 included minutes, so Business-in-a-Box covers 240 minutes before the $0.25 rate applies (was 200).
- Phonely: its Professional plan card says 650 minutes and its comparison table 750; the card is used. When two plans tie on their lowest cost, the one with the narrower range is chosen, so Phonely at 300 calls a month prices on Professional alone.
- My AI Front Desk: billing-term summaries (billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam, setup fee, contract, trial) added from the vendor-data billing-terms and contracts files and their captures. No price changed.
- Phonely: billing-term summaries (billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam, setup fee, contract, trial) added from the vendor-data billing-terms and contracts files and their captures. No price changed.
- RingCentral AI Receptionist: billing-term summaries (billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam, setup fee, contract, trial) added from the vendor-data billing-terms and contracts files and their captures. No price changed.
- Rosie added from its own pricing page (captured October 26, 2026), with billing terms from its terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 27, 2026). Rosie moves an account up a plan instead of charging overage.
- Goodcall added from its own pricing page (captured October 26, 2026), with billing terms from its terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 27, 2026). Goodcall bills per unique caller a month; our arithmetic counts every call as a different caller.
- Dialzara added from its own pricing page (captured October 26, 2026), with billing terms from its terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 27, 2026).
- Upfirst added from its own pricing page (captured October 26, 2026), with billing terms from its terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 27, 2026). Upfirst does not bill calls under 15 seconds or spam.
- Smith.ai AI Receptionist Enterprise at 500 calls ($800, $2.10 per extra call) added from its pricing page, in a full re-check of every source page.
- Added NextPhone Pro, Growth and Scale from its public pricing page. All three plans include unlimited calls with no per-minute charge or overage fee.
- Smith.ai AI Receptionist: billing terms added.
- ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus added as its own live row (messages and call transfers; read October 5, 2026): from $35 a month plus $2.99 a call to $2,440 for 1,000 calls, from its ReceptionistPlus page and the price table in ReceptionHQ's terms (read October 7, 2026), with its own billing terms ($0.30 a call after hours, $0.30 per transfer).
- My AI Front Desk: overage of $0.25 a minute (25 credits at $0.01) added; it was on the captured page but missing here.
