Smith.ai Pricing 2026: Virtual Receptionist and AI Receptionist Plans, Per Call
Published · prices checked October 26, 2026
Key takeaways
- At 50, 100 and 200 calls a month, Smith.ai's live receptionists cost $530, $915 and $1,965, whatever the call length.
- The AI Receptionist is free for 25 calls, then from $150/month (75 calls); 100 calls cost $212.50.
- At 100 calls the live service costs 4.3 times the AI one. Both bill per call, so call length does not change the price.
- Live add-ons such as booking at $1.50 are charged on every call in the plan, not only the calls that use them.
- The terms ask for cancellation 30 days before the cycle ends, or the next month is billed.
Smith.ai's live Virtual Receptionists start at $300/month (30 calls), and its AI Receptionist at $150/month (75 calls) after a free 25-call plan (prices checked October 26, 2026). At 100 calls a month, the live service costs $915 and the AI one $212.50. Both count calls, not minutes.
Smith.ai pricing plans
Prices checked against each vendor's own pricing page on October 26, 2026.
Virtual Receptionists: live agents, per call
| Plan | Price and allowance | Past the allowance | The math |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30 calls | $300/month for 30 calls | $11.50 a call | $300 ÷ 30 calls = $10.00/call |
| 90 calls | $810/month for 90 calls | $10.50 a call | $810 ÷ 90 calls = $9.00/call |
| 300 calls | $2,100/month for 300 calls | $8.50 a call | $2,100 ÷ 300 calls = $7.00/call |
Our arithmetic: each vendor's cheapest published plan for that volume plus its published overage, per call for Smith.ai and at 3-minute calls for per-minute vendors. Taxes, setup fees and add-ons are not included. How we price.
Smith.ai calls these plans Starter, Basic and Pro. A fourth, Enterprise, is quote only. On a 12-month term the FAQ offers "a 10% discount", and the terms make long-term plans "prepaid and non-refundable" (smith.ai/receptionists/terms, read October 7, 2026).
AI Receptionist: AI first, per call
| Plan | Price and allowance | Past the allowance | The math |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | Free for 25 calls | $3.00 a call | $3.00/call used |
| Pro (75 calls) | $150/month for 75 calls | $2.50 a call | $150 ÷ 75 calls = $2.00/call |
| Pro (150 calls) | $270/month for 150 calls | $2.30 a call | $270 ÷ 150 calls = $1.80/call |
| Pro (300 calls) | $500/month for 300 calls | $2.17 a call | $500 ÷ 300 calls = $1.67/call |
| Enterprise (300 calls) | $500/month for 300 calls | $2.17 a call | $500 ÷ 300 calls = $1.67/call |
| Enterprise (500 calls) | $800/month for 500 calls | $2.10 a call | $800 ÷ 500 calls = $1.60/call |
The Free plan is not a trial: 25 calls a month stay free, and past them the rate is $3.00 a call. Enterprise at 300 calls is priced the same as Pro at 300. A 6-month plan with "rollover calls and a lower per-call rate" is quote only (smith.ai/pricing/ai-receptionist, read October 26, 2026).
What Smith.ai costs at 50, 100, 200 and 300 calls
| Calls a month | Live: monthly | Live: per call | AI: monthly | AI: per call |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50 | $530 | $10.60 a call | $75 | $1.50 a call |
| 100 | $915 | $9.15 a call | $212.50 | $2.13 a call |
| 200 | $1,965 | $9.82 a call | $385 | $1.93 a call |
| 300 | $2,100 | $7.00 a call | $500 | $1.67 a call |
100 live calls go on Basic, $810/month for 90 calls, with 10 calls over at $10.50 a call: $915. At 200 calls Basic plus overage still costs less than Pro's $2,100/month for 300 calls; at 300 calls Pro is the cheaper plan.
At 100 calls the live service costs 4.3 times the AI one. The Hybrid plan, AI first with people behind it, is quote only.
Smith.ai's pricing page says Pro "is about $33,000 less than the yearly salary of an in-house receptionist" (read October 26, 2026). On our model, one full-time receptionist on the BLS median wage (May 2025) costs $52,782 a year with benefits and turnover, and Pro costs $25,200: receptionist cost vs AI receptionist.
How Smith.ai counts a call
Virtual Receptionists
- Billing unit: Per call
- Rounding: Per call; extended intake must average 120 seconds or less
- Time billed beyond the call: Add-ons charged per call
- Spam and short calls: Spam, misdials and callers who leave no message are not counted when caller ID passes
- Setup fee: None
- Contract: Cancel 30 days before the cycle ends or the next month is billed; annual plans prepaid and non-refundable
- Trial: No live trial; money-back within 14 or 30 days, capped at $1,000
AI Receptionist
- Billing unit: Per answered call
- Rounding: Per call; duration does not change the base call charge
- Time billed beyond the call: Live agent involvement carries a separate per-call charge
- Spam and short calls: Answered spam counts by default; up to 10% of the quota can be removed for spam and test calls
- Setup fee: None
- Contract: Month-to-month; 30 days notice to cancel
- Trial: Permanent free plan for 25 calls, not a trial
Live plans skip spam, but only with caller ID: "as long as the lines you forward to us pass Caller ID, you won't be charged for spam or unsolicited sales calls" (pricing page, read October 26, 2026). The terms also leave out callers "not wanting to leave a message".
On AI, spam counts unless you remove it: "Every call answered by your AI Receptionist counts toward your call quota by default." You can remove "up to 10% of their calls from their bill each billing cycle" (AI pricing page, read October 26, 2026), and that 10% covers "both spam calls and test calls" (Smith.ai AI help center, read October 7, 2026).
Per call does not mean any length. The reasonable use policy: "Calls that do not fall within this scope may incur additional fees to cover time and effort." (smith.ai, read October 7, 2026)

Add-ons are priced per call, on every call
The live plans sell features as per-call add-ons (pricing page, read October 26, 2026):
- Book appointments: $1.50 a call
- Extended intake: $1.50 a call
- Dedicated Spanish line: $1.00 a call
- Text and email follow-up: $0.50 a call
- Call recording and transcription: $0.25 a call
Each one applies to every call in the plan, used or not. Smith.ai's help center explains: "Per-call pricing gives you a blended average cost of that functionality, proportional to your call plan." (docs.smith.ai, read October 7, 2026) Add booking to Basic and all 90 calls carry the booking charge.
Fees, contract and trial
- Setup fee: "No setup fees" on both pricing pages.
- Contract, live: "Smith is a month-to-month service" (pricing FAQ). The terms add a notice rule, below.
- Contract, AI: "If you ever cancel, we need 30 days' notice, and then you're done." (AI pricing page)
- Trial, live: none. "We have phased out our free trial completely" (docs.smith.ai, read October 7, 2026). A money-back guarantee refunds the plan and add-ons "up to $1,000", overage excluded.
- Trial, AI: the Free plan, 25 calls a month.
The catch
- Month-to-month with a 30-day notice. The pricing FAQ: "If you ever cancel, we bill for and through the end of the current monthly billing cycle". The terms: "Cancellation must be made at least thirty (30) days prior to the end of the current subscription cycle." Cancel late and the next month bills.
- Add-ons multiply by every call. Booking at $1.50 applies to all of a plan's calls, even calls that book nothing.
- Free spam needs caller ID on live plans, and AI caps it. A line that does not pass caller ID loses the exemption; on AI, spam above 10% of the quota bills as a call.
- Overage costs more than an included call. Starter's included calls work out to $300 ÷ 30 calls = $10.00/call; past 30 calls each costs $11.50 a call.
- Two refund windows in one answer. The pricing page offers a "30-day money-back guarantee", then refunds "in the first two weeks".
- A person on an AI call costs extra. The AI plan sells transfer to a live receptionist, and "Live agent involvement is billed at a flat rate of +$3.00 per call, only when used" (Smith.ai help center, read October 7, 2026).
Where Smith.ai is a good buy
Long calls cost the same as short ones. Smith.ai's FAQ: "You wouldn't rush a client off the phone and we don't either." At 300 calls Pro costs $2,100, less than Ruby at $3,127.50 and Abby Connect at $2,484 for 3-minute calls, and the gap widens as calls get longer.
Nights cost nothing extra: "Calls at 2 pm and 2 am cost the same." And the AI Receptionist is free for 25 calls, so at 20 calls a month it costs the same as Phonely's free plan and less than every other AI receptionist in the table below.
Smith.ai against other receptionists
For live answering at 100 three-minute calls, Posh costs $630, less than Smith.ai's $915, but Posh bills each minute, so its cost climbs with call length. For AI answering:
| Service | Entry plan | 3 calls/day (90/mo) | 5 calls/day (150/mo) | 13 calls/day (390/mo) | If calls double (13 to 26 a day) | Overage | Source |

How these numbers were made
Every vendor price on this page was read from the vendor's own pricing page on the date in its Source cell and saved as a dated capture. Monthly costs use each vendor's cheapest published plan for the volume plus its published overage, at 3-minute calls. The in-house figure uses the BLS median wage for receptionists over 2,080 paid hours (paid leave included), other employer benefit costs and turnover, each from the BLS release named below. Vendors that hide prices stay in the tables as quote only. We do not test answering quality and publish no ratings.

Changes to these prices
- Upfirst: cancellation notice recorded as none. Its pricing FAQ says "You can cancel, upgrade, or downgrade anytime, no questions asked," the same strength as other cancel-anytime terms. Its setup-fee summary now reads "None stated": no page says there is no fee. No price changed.
- My AI Front Desk: the 1,000 monthly overage credits its pricing page lists as included ("Extra credits you get each month in case you go over your included usage") now count as 40 included minutes, so Business-in-a-Box covers 240 minutes before the $0.25 rate applies (was 200).
- Phonely: its Professional plan card says 650 minutes and its comparison table 750; the card is used. When two plans tie on their lowest cost, the one with the narrower range is chosen, so Phonely at 300 calls a month prices on Professional alone.
- My AI Front Desk: billing-term summaries (billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam, setup fee, contract, trial) added from the vendor-data billing-terms and contracts files and their captures. No price changed.
- Phonely: billing-term summaries (billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam, setup fee, contract, trial) added from the vendor-data billing-terms and contracts files and their captures. No price changed.

- Goodcall added from its own pricing page (captured October 26, 2026), with billing terms from its terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 27, 2026). Goodcall bills per unique caller a month; our arithmetic counts every call as a different caller.
