Phonely Alternatives 2026: AI Receptionist Pricing Compared at 3, 5 and 13 Calls a Day

Published · prices checked October 26, 2026

Key takeaways

  • At 13 three-minute calls a day Phonely costs $292.50 to $389.50 a month and Goodcall $129 (prices checked October 26, 2026).
  • Phonely's own page prints two overage rates for Starter, so its costs at 3, 5 and 13 calls a day are ranges.
  • At 3 three-minute calls a day Upfirst costs the least of the AI receptionists in the table; at 13 a day Goodcall does.
  • Phonely and Smith.ai both have a free plan: Phonely stops at 100 minutes, Smith.ai bills each call past its 25.
  • Phonely publishes no contract, notice or porting terms on its pricing page, so ask before you switch either way.

At 13 three-minute calls a day, Phonely costs $292.50 to $389.50 a month and Goodcall $129, the lowest in our table at that volume (prices checked October 26, 2026). At 3 calls a day the order changes: of the nine alternatives in the table, only Upfirst costs less than Phonely.

What does Phonely cost?

Phonely has a free plan of 100 minutes, then $50/month (200 minutes). At 3, 5 and 13 three-minute calls a day it costs $67.50 to $74.50, $112.50 to $137.50 and $292.50 to $389.50 a month.

All three figures are ranges because Phonely's comparison table prints Starter's overage as $0.25 a minute in one view and $0.35 in the other. At 13 a day Starter at the lower rate still comes in under Professional, so Starter prices that volume too. Every plan and billing rule is on the Phonely pricing page.

Our arithmetic: each vendor's cheapest published plan for that volume plus its published overage, at 3-minute calls over 30 days. Goodcall bills per unique caller; we count every call as a new caller. "Not computable" means the vendor publishes no price past its allowance. Taxes, setup fees and add-ons are not included. How we price.

At 13 calls a day, Goodcall costs the least in the table, and NextPhone and Upfirst also cost less than Phonely. Rosie's $299 and My AI Front Desk's $331.50 fall inside Phonely's range. At 3 calls a day, Upfirst costs the least, at $59.95. NextPhone's is the only bill in the table that does not move from 13 to 26 calls a day.

Two free plans, two different limits

Phonely and Smith.ai AI Receptionist each publish a free plan, and they end differently. Phonely's covers 100 minutes, 33 three-minute calls, and then "you will need to upgrade" (phonely.ai/pricing, read October 26, 2026).

Smith.ai's is free for 25 calls, and each call past that bills at $3.00 a call. On Phonely a busy month forces a plan change; on Smith.ai it produces a bill. Neither covers 3 calls a day.

What each alternative does better and worse than Phonely

Goodcall

Better: at 13 calls a day Goodcall costs $129, against Phonely's $292.50 to $389.50. It meters callers, not minutes: "Spam and wrong numbers don't count at all." (goodcall.com/pricing, read October 27, 2026)

Worse: at 3 calls a day it costs $79, more than Phonely. There is no free plan to answer real calls: "You get a free demo agent instead." (goodcall.com/faq, read October 27, 2026)

Upfirst

Better: at 3 calls a day Upfirst costs $59.95, less than Phonely's $67.50 to $74.50. Short calls are free: "Spam calls and calls under 15 seconds are not counted toward your monthly limit." (Upfirst pricing FAQs, read October 27, 2026)

Worse: past the allowance every call bills, at $1.50 a call on its entry plan. At 5 a day it costs $119.95, inside Phonely's range of $112.50 to $137.50.

Rosie

Better: Rosie's Scale plan holds one price, $149, up to its 1,000 minutes, about 11 three-minute calls a day, where Phonely's Starter bills every minute past 200. At 13 a day Rosie costs $299, inside Phonely's range. Its pricing page lists "English & Spanish on every call" (read October 26, 2026).

Worse: at 3 and 5 calls a day it costs $149, more than Phonely. Every call "rounded up to the next 60-second mark" (heyrosie.com/legal/terms, read October 27, 2026), and going over moves you up a plan instead of charging a rate.

NextPhone

Better: NextPhone is $199 at 3, 5 or 13 calls a day, with unlimited calls. At 13 a day that is less than Phonely's $292.50 to $389.50. Its pricing page: "No per-minute pricing, no overage fees, no fine print." (getnextphone.com/pricing, read October 26, 2026)

Worse: at 3 and 5 calls a day Phonely costs less. NextPhone has no free plan, only a "7-day free trial" (same page).

My AI Front Desk

Better: one plan carries "200 voice minutes plus the full Frontdesk AI workforce: web chat, 2-way SMS, an AI-native CRM, and sequence automations" (myaifrontdesk.com/pricing, read October 27, 2026). My AI Front Desk publishes one overage rate, $0.25 a minute, not two, and its 1,000 monthly overage credits cover 40 minutes past the 200.

Worse: at 3 and 5 calls a day it costs $106.50 and $151.50, more than Phonely at both. At 13 a day its $331.50 falls inside Phonely's range. Its terms bill usage during the free trial: "You will still be responsible for usage fees" (terms, read October 27, 2026).

Dialzara

Better: Dialzara bills talk time only, by the second: "Only live talk time while connected to a caller. Usage tracked to the second - partial minutes are not rounded up." (dialzara.com/pricing, read October 27, 2026) Phonely may bill minutes after a transfer.

Worse: at 13 calls a day it costs $408.50, more than Phonely's $292.50 to $389.50.

RingCentral AI Receptionist

Better: RingCentral lists "Works with any business phone system" on its pricing page (read October 26, 2026), and sells the same product as an add-on to its RingEX phone plans. See RingCentral AI Receptionist.

Worse: at 3 and 13 calls a day it costs $134 and $584, more than Phonely at both. "Call time is rounded up and billed in 30-second increments." (ringcentral.com/pricing/ai-receptionist.html, read October 26, 2026)

Smith.ai AI Receptionist

Better: besides the free plan, Smith.ai lets you take spam off the bill: "an allowance to remove up to 10% of their calls from their bill each billing cycle to account for selected spam calls" (smith.ai/pricing/ai-receptionist, read October 26, 2026).

Worse: at 13 calls a day it costs $695.30, more than Phonely's $292.50 to $389.50.

Simple Phones

Better: Simple Phones starts from $97/month (100 calls) and counts calls, not minutes, so call length does not change the bill.

Worse: it publishes no rate past 100 calls, so 5 and 13 calls a day are not computable. Going over has a cost of its own: "If you cancel your plan, or you exceed the number of calls per month for your tier, your phone numbers will be released." (simplephones.ai/pricing, read October 26, 2026) At 3 calls a day it costs $97, more than Phonely.

Where Phonely is still the better buy

At 3 calls a day Phonely costs $67.50 to $74.50, less than Goodcall, Rosie, NextPhone, My AI Front Desk, RingCentral AI Receptionist and Simple Phones. Of the nine alternatives in the table, only Upfirst costs less at that volume.

At 5 calls a day the high end of Phonely's range is still below NextPhone's $199 and My AI Front Desk's $151.50. And if your volume is a handful of calls a month, Phonely's free 100 minutes cost nothing.

Phonely's bill passes NextPhone's somewhere between 5 and 13 calls a day: $112.50 to $137.50 against $199 at 5, and $292.50 to $389.50 against $199 at 13.

Which alternative fits which situation

Best at 13 calls a day: Goodcall

$129 at 13 calls a day, the least of the services in the table, when every call is a different caller. Repeat callers cost nothing extra. It may not fit if you want to try real calls first: there is no free plan or trial number.

Best at 3 calls a day: Upfirst

$59.95 at 3 calls a day, the least in the table at that volume. Calls under 15 seconds and spam do not count. It bills per call, so at 13 a day it costs $227.45.

Best if your volume swings: NextPhone

NextPhone's bill is the only one in the table that does not move from 13 to 26 calls a day: $199 with unlimited calls. Rosie holds $149 only up to its 1,000 minutes, about 11 calls a day, and costs $299 at 13. At 3 a day both cost more than Phonely.

Best if your calls end in transfers: Dialzara

Dialzara bills only live talk time, by the second, so a handed-off call stops the meter. The trade-off is price: at 13 calls a day it costs $408.50, more than Phonely.

How to switch from Phonely without losing calls or your number

Phonely's pricing page publishes no contract term, notice period or porting rule. Ask support three things before you move: whether you can port the number out, when billing stops, and whether unused minutes carry over.

The safer path is forwarding. Keep the number on your carrier, point it at the new service's number, and leave Phonely live until test calls go through. Phonely includes 1 free number on Free, 3 on Starter and 5 on Pro, per its comparison table: the page does not say whether they can leave with you.

One full-time receptionist on the BLS median wage costs $4,399 a month with benefits and turnover at any call volume, 11.3 to 15.0 times Phonely at 13 calls a day: hire vs AI receptionist.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is cheaper than Phonely?

At 13 three-minute calls a day, Goodcall, NextPhone and Upfirst cost less than Phonely's $292.50 to $389.50. At 3 calls a day only Upfirst, at $59.95, costs less among the AI receptionists we compared (prices checked October 26, 2026).

Is there a free alternative to Phonely?

Smith.ai AI Receptionist is free for 25 calls a month, with each later call billed at $3.00 a call. Goodcall offers a free demo agent without a phone number, and Upfirst a 14-day trial.

Is Phonely cheaper than NextPhone?

At 3 and 5 three-minute calls a day, yes: Phonely costs $112.50 to $137.50 at 5 a day against NextPhone's $199. At 13 a day, no: NextPhone's flat price is under Phonely's $292.50 to $389.50.

Why does Phonely's price show as a range?

Phonely's comparison table lists Starter overage at $0.25 a minute in its monthly view and $0.35 in its annual view. Its plan cards and table also disagree on how many minutes Starter includes. Until Phonely says which applies, every Starter cost past the allowance is a range.

Can I keep my number if I leave Phonely?

Phonely's pricing page does not say whether numbers can be ported out. If your business number stays with your carrier and forwards to Phonely, you only change the forwarding target when you switch.

How these numbers were made

Every vendor price on this page was read from the vendor's own pricing page on the date in its Source cell and saved as a dated capture. Monthly costs use each vendor's cheapest published plan for the volume plus its published overage, at 3-minute calls. The in-house figure uses the BLS median wage for receptionists over 2,080 paid hours (paid leave included), other employer benefit costs and turnover, each from the BLS release named below. Vendors that hide prices stay in the tables as quote only. We do not test answering quality and publish no ratings.

Changes to these prices

  • Upfirst: cancellation notice recorded as none. Its pricing FAQ says "You can cancel, upgrade, or downgrade anytime, no questions asked," the same strength as other cancel-anytime terms. Its setup-fee summary now reads "None stated": no page says there is no fee. No price changed.
  • My AI Front Desk: the 1,000 monthly overage credits its pricing page lists as included ("Extra credits you get each month in case you go over your included usage") now count as 40 included minutes, so Business-in-a-Box covers 240 minutes before the $0.25 rate applies (was 200).
  • Phonely: its Professional plan card says 650 minutes and its comparison table 750; the card is used. When two plans tie on their lowest cost, the one with the narrower range is chosen, so Phonely at 300 calls a month prices on Professional alone.
  • My AI Front Desk: billing-term summaries (billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam, setup fee, contract, trial) added from the vendor-data billing-terms and contracts files and their captures. No price changed.
  • Simple Phones: billing-term summaries (billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam, setup fee, contract, trial) added from the vendor-data billing-terms and contracts files and their captures. No price changed.

  • Rosie added from its own pricing page (captured October 26, 2026), with billing terms from its terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 27, 2026). Rosie moves an account up a plan instead of charging overage.
  • Goodcall added from its own pricing page (captured October 26, 2026), with billing terms from its terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 27, 2026). Goodcall bills per unique caller a month; our arithmetic counts every call as a different caller.
