Published · prices checked October 26, 2026

Key takeaways

  • At 3 three-minute calls a day Simple Phones costs $97 and Upfirst $59.95, the least of the alternatives (prices checked October 26, 2026).
  • Simple Phones publishes no price past 100 calls, and its FAQ says exceeding your tier releases your phone numbers. Every alternative here publishes a price at 13 calls a day.
  • At 13 calls a day Goodcall costs $129, the least of the alternatives.
  • Simple Phones still costs less than My AI Front Desk, Dialzara, RingCentral AI Receptionist, Rosie and NextPhone at 3 calls a day.

At 3 three-minute calls a day, Simple Phones costs $97 a month and Upfirst, the lowest-cost alternative in our table at that volume, $59.95 (prices checked October 26, 2026). Above 100 calls a month, Simple Phones publishes no price at all, which is the main reason to look elsewhere.

What does Simple Phones cost?

Simple Phones costs from $97/month (100 calls), billed by the call, not the minute. At 50, 90 and 100 calls a month the bill is the same, $97. Past 100 there is no rate, and its FAQ says: "If you cancel your plan, or you exceed the number of calls per month for your tier, your phone numbers will be released." (simplephones.ai/pricing, read October 26, 2026). The full plan and its terms are on the Simple Phones pricing page.

Our arithmetic: each vendor's cheapest published plan for that volume plus its published overage, at 3-minute calls over 30 days. Goodcall bills per unique caller; we count every call as a new caller. Taxes, setup fees and add-ons are not included. Simple Phones publishes no price past 100 calls, so its 5 and 13 calls a day cells cannot be worked out from its page. How we price.

At 13 calls a day, Goodcall costs the least in the table, $129, because it bills per unique caller and our arithmetic counts every call as a new one. At 3 calls a day, Upfirst costs the least of the alternatives, $59.95. NextPhone is the only one whose bill does not move when calls double from 13 to 26 a day; Rosie publishes no plan that covers 26.

Per call, per caller, per minute or flat

Simple Phones' appeal is that call length does not matter. Four billing models sit in the table, and three keep that property:

Billing modelWhoCall length moves the bill?Past the allowance
Per callSimple Phones, UpfirstNoSimple Phones: no price. Upfirst: $0.70 to $1.50 a call
Per unique callerGoodcallNo$0.15 to $0.79 a caller
Flat, unlimited callsNextPhoneNoNone, unlimited calls
Per minutePhonely, My AI Front Desk, Dialzara, RingCentral AI Receptionist, RosieYes$0.25 to $0.50 a minute, or Rosie's plan upgrade

If your calls run long, the first three rows keep a 9-minute call priced like a 1-minute one. If your volume swings past 100 calls, every row except Simple Phones prints what the next call costs.

What each alternative does better and worse than Simple Phones

Upfirst

Better: at 3 calls a day Simple Phones costs $37 a month more than Upfirst. It is also per call, and short calls are free: "We also don't bill for calls under 15 seconds or calls where the caller never speaks" (upfirst.ai/pricing, read October 27, 2026).

Worse: past each plan's calls you pay per call, $0.70 to $1.50 a call, so the bill keeps climbing, from $119.95 at 5 calls a day to $227.45 at 13. At that volume it costs more than Goodcall's $129 and NextPhone's $199.

Goodcall

Better: at 13 calls a day Goodcall costs $129, the least in the table. Like Simple Phones it ignores call length: "A thirty-second call and a nine-minute booking cost the same." It goes further on junk calls: "Spam and wrong numbers don't count." (goodcall.com/faq, read October 27, 2026)

Worse: there is no trial: "You get a free demo agent instead." Moving your number in is not offered yet: "Not yourself yet." (same FAQ)

Phonely

Better: at 3 calls a day Phonely costs $67.50 to $74.50, less than Simple Phones, and for very low volume it has a plan that is free for 100 minutes.

Worse: it bills minutes, and minutes after a transfer can count: "which is why post-transfer minutes may be billed." (phonely.ai/pricing, read October 26, 2026) Its plan cards and comparison table also disagree on Starter's minutes and overage, which is why its costs print as ranges.

NextPhone

Better: no ceiling to hit. NextPhone's pricing page: "Truly unlimited calls at one flat rate: no per-minute charges, no overage, no surprise bills." (getnextphone.com/pricing, read October 26, 2026) Its bill is $199 at 13 calls a day, the same as at 3.

Worse: at 3 calls a day NextPhone costs $102 a month more than Simple Phones. It pays off only if your volume would push you past Simple Phones' 100 calls.

Rosie

Better: Rosie costs $49 at 50 calls a month, less than Simple Phones, and its Scale plan holds at $149 from 3 to 11 calls a day. At 13 a day it moves up to $299.

Worse: at 3 calls a day you are already on Scale, and Rosie rounds every call up: "calls are rounded up to the next 60-second mark" (heyrosie.com/legal/terms, read October 27, 2026). Long calls drain its minutes; on Simple Phones they cost nothing extra.

My AI Front Desk

Better: My AI Front Desk prints a price at every volume, $331.50 at 13 calls a day, with chat, texting and a CRM in the same plan.

Worse: at 3 calls a day it costs $10 a month more than Simple Phones. Its trial is not usage-free: "You will still be responsible for usage fees, as defined in section eleven, despite being on a free trial." (myaifrontdesk.com/terms-of-service, read October 27, 2026)

Dialzara

Better: Dialzara meters to the second: "Usage tracked to the second - partial minutes are not rounded up." (dialzara.com/pricing, read October 27, 2026)

Worse: at 3 calls a day it costs $121.50, more than Simple Phones. When minutes run out without auto-recharge, "callers go straight to voicemail", per the same page.

RingCentral AI Receptionist

Better: at very low volume RingCentral AI Receptionist costs less: $74 at 50 calls a month against Simple Phones' $97. Simple Phones becomes the lower bill from about 66 calls a month.

Worse: at 3 calls a day it costs $134, and "Call time is rounded up and billed in 30-second increments." (ringcentral.com/pricing/ai-receptionist.html, read October 26, 2026)

Where Simple Phones is still the better buy

At low, steady volume with calls of any length. At 3 three-minute calls a day Simple Phones costs $97, less than My AI Front Desk, Dialzara, RingCentral AI Receptionist, Rosie and NextPhone. Longer calls widen the gap against the four that meter minutes; NextPhone's gap stays fixed.

Its pricing page also lists numbers in 25 countries and 20 languages. Agent changes are free: "you can request customizations for free on an ongoing basis." A business with a steady, low call count and long calls has little to gain by switching.

Against a hire: one full-time receptionist on the BLS median wage costs $4,399 a month with benefits and turnover. See hire vs AI receptionist.

Which alternative fits which situation

Best if you outgrow 100 calls: Goodcall

At 13 calls a day Goodcall costs $129, the least in the table, and keeps Simple Phones' indifference to call length. It may not fit if you want a trial: Goodcall offers a demo agent instead.

Best at 3 calls a day: Upfirst

Upfirst costs $59.95 at 3 calls a day, the least of the alternatives, and also bills per call. At 13 a day it costs $227.45, more than Goodcall.

Best if volume swings hard: NextPhone

NextPhone costs $199 whether you take 3, 13 or 26 calls a day, with no overage. At 3 calls a day that is more than Simple Phones' $97.

Best for under 2 calls a day: Rosie

At 50 calls a month Rosie costs $49, the least in the table and less than Simple Phones' $97. Past about 83 calls a month it moves up a plan.

How to switch without losing calls or your number

  1. Keep your own number outside both. Simple Phones' FAQ says you can forward missed calls, or all calls, from your existing number "to the number we give you". If you forwarded, switching means pointing the forward at the new vendor's number.
  2. Do not cancel first. Cancelling releases the numbers Simple Phones assigned: "If you cancel your plan ... your phone numbers will be released." Set up the new receptionist, move the forward, then cancel.
  3. Watch the 100. Going over your tier releases the number just as cancelling does. If a busy month is coming, switch before it.
  4. No commitment to wait out. The pricing page: "there is no commitment, so you can cancel any time." Your AI agent is kept "ready if you decide to get started again."

How these numbers were made

Every vendor price on this page was read from the vendor's own pricing page on the date in its Source cell and saved as a dated capture. Monthly costs use each vendor's cheapest published plan for the volume plus its published overage, at 3-minute calls. The in-house figure uses the BLS median wage for receptionists over 2,080 paid hours (paid leave included), other employer benefit costs and turnover, each from the BLS release named below. Vendors that hide prices stay in the tables as quote only. We do not test answering quality and publish no ratings.

Changes to these prices

  • Upfirst: cancellation notice recorded as none. Its pricing FAQ says "You can cancel, upgrade, or downgrade anytime, no questions asked," the same strength as other cancel-anytime terms. Its setup-fee summary now reads "None stated": no page says there is no fee. No price changed.
  • My AI Front Desk: the 1,000 monthly overage credits its pricing page lists as included ("Extra credits you get each month in case you go over your included usage") now count as 40 included minutes, so Business-in-a-Box covers 240 minutes before the $0.25 rate applies (was 200).
  • Phonely: its Professional plan card says 650 minutes and its comparison table 750; the card is used. When two plans tie on their lowest cost, the one with the narrower range is chosen, so Phonely at 300 calls a month prices on Professional alone.
  • My AI Front Desk: billing-term summaries (billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam, setup fee, contract, trial) added from the vendor-data billing-terms and contracts files and their captures. No price changed.
  • Simple Phones: billing-term summaries (billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam, setup fee, contract, trial) added from the vendor-data billing-terms and contracts files and their captures. No price changed.

  • Goodcall added from its own pricing page (captured October 26, 2026), with billing terms from its terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 27, 2026). Goodcall bills per unique caller a month; our arithmetic counts every call as a different caller.
  • Dialzara added from its own pricing page (captured October 26, 2026), with billing terms from its terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 27, 2026).
  • Upfirst added from its own pricing page (captured October 26, 2026), with billing terms from its terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 27, 2026). Upfirst does not bill calls under 15 seconds or spam.
  • Added NextPhone Pro, Growth and Scale from its public pricing page. All three plans include unlimited calls with no per-minute charge or overage fee.
  • My AI Front Desk: overage of $0.25 a minute (25 credits at $0.01) added; it was on the captured page but missing here.
