Goodcall Alternatives 2026: AI Receptionist Pricing Against a Per-Caller Plan
Published · prices checked October 26, 2026
Key takeaways
- Goodcall costs $129 at 13 three-minute calls a day, less than all 8 alternatives in our table (prices checked October 26, 2026).
- At 3 calls a day Upfirst costs $59.95 and Phonely $67.50 to $74.50, both less than Goodcall's $79.
- Every per-call and per-minute alternative bills a caller's second call. Goodcall counts that caller once a month.
- Goodcall's catches are not price: no trial on real calls, and no porting a number in yourself.
Goodcall costs $129 a month at 13 three-minute calls a day (prices checked October 26, 2026). No other ready-made AI receptionist in our table costs less at that volume. At 3 calls a day Upfirst costs $59.95, against Goodcall's $79.
What does Goodcall cost?
Goodcall starts at $79/month (100 unique callers) and bills per unique caller a month. At 3, 5 and 13 calls a day, with every call from a different number, it costs $79, $118.50 and $129. How repeat callers lower that is worked out on the Goodcall pricing page.

Our arithmetic: each vendor's cheapest published plan for that volume plus its published overage, at 3-minute calls over 30 days, with every Goodcall call counted as a new caller. Taxes, setup fees and add-ons are not included. How we price.
At 13 calls a day Goodcall costs less than every alternative in the table, and NextPhone comes next at $199. At 5 a day only Phonely's range, $112.50 to $137.50, reaches below Goodcall's $118.50.
At 3 a day the order turns: Upfirst costs the least, and Phonely also costs less than Goodcall.
Upfirst's edge is narrow. It costs more than Goodcall from about 144 calls a month.
Each alternative as a multiple of Goodcall's bill
What each alternative costs at 13 calls a day for every dollar Goodcall charges, and whether you can try it on live calls first:
| Alternative | 13 calls a day (390/mo) | Times Goodcall's bill | Trial |
|---|---|---|---|
| NextPhone | $199 | 1.5 | 7 days free |
| Upfirst | $227.45 | 1.8 | 14 days free, no card |
| Rosie | $299 | 2.3 | 7 days free |
| My AI Front Desk | $331.50 | 2.6 | 7 days free, no card; usage fees still apply |
| Dialzara | $408.50 | 3.2 | 7 days free |
| RingCentral AI Receptionist | $584 | 4.5 | 14 days free |
| Smith.ai AI Receptionist | $695.30 | 5.4 | Permanent free plan for 25 calls, not a trial |
Phonely is left out of the multiples because its pricing page states its Starter overage two ways; at 13 a day it costs $292.50 to $389.50. The two trial lines missing from the table:
- Phonely: No trial; a free plan of 100 minutes
- Goodcall: No trial; a free demo agent without a phone number
The multiples are the floor of the gap. Goodcall's cost falls when callers repeat; every alternative's stays where it is.
What repeat callers do to each alternative
A caller who rings three times about one job is one Goodcall customer that month. "The same person calling five times in a month is one customer." (goodcall.com/faq, read October 27, 2026)
- Per call (Upfirst, Smith.ai AI Receptionist): each of those calls counts. Upfirst skips only calls under 15 seconds and spam.
- Per minute (Rosie, Phonely, My AI Front Desk, Dialzara, RingCentral AI Receptionist): each call's minutes count, until the bundle runs out.
- Flat (NextPhone): no call counts, at any volume.
If your line is mostly existing customers, Goodcall's lead at 13 a day grows. If it is mostly one-time leads, our numbers already describe it.
Live virtual receptionists against Goodcall
At 100 three-minute calls a month the lowest-cost live virtual receptionist we price, ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus, costs $260, against Goodcall's $79; Posh costs $630. A live receptionist is the alternative if you want a person on the line, not a lower bill: see virtual receptionist pricing. One full-time hire on the BLS median wage costs $4,399 a month (hire vs AI receptionist).
What each alternative does better and worse than Goodcall
Upfirst
Better: a real trial. "Full access to every feature in your selected plan for 14 days. You can forward real calls and test responses with no commitment." (upfirst.ai/pricing, read October 27, 2026) It also costs less at 3 calls a day.
Worse: repeat calls each count, and at 13 a day Upfirst costs $98 a month more than Goodcall.
Rosie
Better: a 7-day trial, and "English & Spanish on every call" on every plan (heyrosie.com/pricing, read October 26, 2026). Its bill stays at $149 from 3 calls a day until Scale's 1,000 minutes run out, at about 11 a day.
Worse: at 13 a day it moves up to Growth and costs $170 a month more, and every call is rounded up to a full minute of the allowance.
NextPhone
Better: the bill ignores both callers and calls, and the plan lists "Help forwarding or porting your existing number" (getnextphone.com/pricing, read October 26, 2026). Goodcall's FAQ answers porting with "Not yourself yet." Past about 770 calls a month of new callers, NextPhone costs less.
Worse: at 13 calls a day NextPhone costs $70 a month more. At 3 a day it costs $199, against Goodcall's $79.
Phonely
Better: at 3 calls a day Phonely costs $67.50 to $74.50, and its free plan covers 100 minutes a month.
Worse: "Post-transfer minutes are the call minutes that happen after Phonely transfers a caller to a live person or another phone number" and can be billed (phonely.ai/pricing, read October 26, 2026).
My AI Front Desk
Better: a 7-day trial with no card, where Goodcall has none.
Worse: at 13 calls a day My AI Front Desk costs 2.6 times Goodcall. Its terms: "all fees are non-refundable except as required by law" (myaifrontdesk.com/terms-of-service, read October 27, 2026).
Dialzara
Better: you can bring your number: "Number porting is free." (dialzara.com/faqs, read October 27, 2026) Calls bill by the second.
Worse: at 13 calls a day Dialzara costs $408.50. Its pricing FAQ prices a local number at $3 a month, where Goodcall includes one.
RingCentral AI Receptionist
Better: a 14-day trial, and RingCentral AI Receptionist is sold on its own or added to a RingCentral phone plan.
Worse: per-minute billing rounded up to 30 seconds, and $584 at 13 calls a day.
Smith.ai AI Receptionist
Better: Smith.ai's entry tier is free for 25 calls, with a handoff to Smith.ai's live receptionists at a separate charge.
Worse: at 13 calls a day it costs $695.30, and every answered call counts; spam you flag comes off only up to 10% of the quota.
Where Goodcall is still the better buy
At 13 calls a day. Goodcall costs less than every alternative in the table, before any repeat caller is subtracted. At 5 a day it costs less than all but Phonely, whose range straddles it.
Lines with regulars. A shop whose customers call back about the same job pays for each of them once a month. No alternative here bills that way.
Long calls. A nine-minute booking costs what a thirty-second question does, which no per-minute alternative matches.
Which alternative fits which situation
- Best at 3 calls a day: Upfirst. $59.95, the least in the table at that volume, with a 14-day trial on real calls. It costs more than Goodcall from 5 a day.
- Best for trying before you pay: Upfirst or Rosie. Both run on your real calls during the trial; Goodcall's demo agent has no number.
- Best at very high volume: NextPhone. Goodcall costs more from about 770 calls a month of new callers. At 1,000 calls NextPhone costs $199, Goodcall $259.
- Best to bring your own number: Dialzara. Free porting, per-second billing. It costs more than Goodcall at every volume in the table.
How to switch from Goodcall
Cancelling is a dashboard action: "You may cancel your subscription online by cancelling through your Service dashboard." Payments "are final", though "You may request a refund for the current month of service from Goodcall." (Goodcall terms, read October 27, 2026)
If you forwarded your own number, repoint the forward at the new vendor and nothing else moves. If callers dial the Goodcall number directly, plan for losing it. The FAQ does not describe porting a Goodcall number out, and dropping to the free demo agent "gives up its phone number" (goodcall.com/faq, read October 27, 2026).

How these numbers were made
Every vendor price on this page was read from the vendor's own pricing page on the date in its Source cell and saved as a dated capture. Monthly costs use each vendor's cheapest published plan for the volume plus its published overage, at 3-minute calls. The in-house figure uses the BLS median wage for receptionists over 2,080 paid hours (paid leave included), other employer benefit costs and turnover, each from the BLS release named below. Vendors that hide prices stay in the tables as quote only. We do not test answering quality and publish no ratings.

Changes to these prices
- Upfirst: cancellation notice recorded as none. Its pricing FAQ says "You can cancel, upgrade, or downgrade anytime, no questions asked," the same strength as other cancel-anytime terms. Its setup-fee summary now reads "None stated": no page says there is no fee. No price changed.
- My AI Front Desk: the 1,000 monthly overage credits its pricing page lists as included ("Extra credits you get each month in case you go over your included usage") now count as 40 included minutes, so Business-in-a-Box covers 240 minutes before the $0.25 rate applies (was 200).
- Phonely: its Professional plan card says 650 minutes and its comparison table 750; the card is used. When two plans tie on their lowest cost, the one with the narrower range is chosen, so Phonely at 300 calls a month prices on Professional alone.
- My AI Front Desk: billing-term summaries (billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam, setup fee, contract, trial) added from the vendor-data billing-terms and contracts files and their captures. No price changed.
- Phonely: billing-term summaries (billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam, setup fee, contract, trial) added from the vendor-data billing-terms and contracts files and their captures. No price changed.
- RingCentral AI Receptionist: billing-term summaries (billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam, setup fee, contract, trial) added from the vendor-data billing-terms and contracts files and their captures. No price changed.
- Rosie added from its own pricing page (captured October 26, 2026), with billing terms from its terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 27, 2026). Rosie moves an account up a plan instead of charging overage.
- Goodcall added from its own pricing page (captured October 26, 2026), with billing terms from its terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 27, 2026). Goodcall bills per unique caller a month; our arithmetic counts every call as a different caller.
- Dialzara added from its own pricing page (captured October 26, 2026), with billing terms from its terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 27, 2026).
- Upfirst added from its own pricing page (captured October 26, 2026), with billing terms from its terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 27, 2026). Upfirst does not bill calls under 15 seconds or spam.
- Smith.ai AI Receptionist Enterprise at 500 calls ($800, $2.10 per extra call) added from its pricing page, in a full re-check of every source page.
- Added NextPhone Pro, Growth and Scale from its public pricing page. All three plans include unlimited calls with no per-minute charge or overage fee.
- Smith.ai AI Receptionist: billing terms added.
- ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus added as its own live row (messages and call transfers; read October 5, 2026): from $35 a month plus $2.99 a call to $2,440 for 1,000 calls, from its ReceptionistPlus page and the price table in ReceptionHQ's terms (read October 7, 2026), with its own billing terms ($0.30 a call after hours, $0.30 per transfer).
- My AI Front Desk: overage of $0.25 a minute (25 credits at $0.01) added; it was on the captured page but missing here.
- Smith.ai AI Receptionist: billing terms added from its terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 7, 2026): billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam billing, setup fee, contract and trial.
- Posh: billing terms added from its terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 7, 2026): billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam billing, setup fee, contract and trial.
- ReceptionHQ ReceptionistPlus: billing terms added from its terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 7, 2026): billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam billing, setup fee, contract and trial.
