Vapi Alternatives 2026: Other Voice AI Platforms and Ready-Made AI Receptionists, Priced
Published · prices checked October 26, 2026
Key takeaways
- Vapi bills a hosting fee plus each provider you choose, so its cost at 3, 5 or 13 calls a day is not computable from its page (prices checked October 26, 2026).
- Retell AI and Bland price the model, speech and voice into one per-minute rate: $163.80 of Bland talk time at 13 three-minute calls a day.
- Bland, a Vapi competitor, puts a production Vapi stack at $0.13 to $0.30 a minute. That is its estimate, not a published Vapi price.
- If you would rather not build, Goodcall costs $129 at 13 calls a day and Upfirst $59.95 at 3 a day, the least of the ready-made receptionists in our table.
Vapi's price is $0.05/min hosting, plus each speech, model, voice and phone provider billed per minute (prices checked October 26, 2026), so we cannot compute its cost at 13 calls a day. At that volume Bland's talk time is $163.80, and Goodcall, the lowest-cost ready-made AI receptionist in our table, costs $129.
What does Vapi cost?
Vapi sets one rate, its hosting fee, and passes every other provider through at cost. Its free tier comes with $5 in credits, one Vapi number and 4 concurrent calls; the Core package adds support and capacity for $29 a month.
The only all-in figure on Vapi's page is its own calculator: $82 to $129 a month for 1,000 minutes with its default providers (vapi.ai/pricing, read October 26, 2026). Every package, provider line and term is on Vapi pricing.

Our arithmetic: each vendor's cheapest published plan for that volume plus its published overage, at 3-minute calls. Goodcall bills per unique caller; we count every call as a new caller. Taxes, setup fees and add-ons are not included. How we price.
The table holds two kinds of row. Rows marked "build your own" are platform usage only: no phone line on Retell AI, no telephony or transfer minutes on Bland, and no build work on any of them. The other rows are a ready-made AI receptionist's plan price at that volume, for a product you set up rather than build. "Not computable" means the published numbers cannot cover that volume.
What a competitor says a Vapi stack costs
Bland's pricing FAQ argues that Vapi's advertised rate "is the platform fee only". It then estimates that adding a leading model, speech-to-text, a voice and Twilio brings "most production stacks to roughly $0.13 to $0.30 per minute on Vapi" (bland.ai/pricing, read October 26, 2026).
Bland sells against Vapi, so read that as a rival's estimate, not a Vapi price. Set it next to Vapi's own calculator: $82 to $129 for 1,000 minutes with Vapi's default providers, phone line on Vapi's own telephony. Bland's own rate, which it says includes the model, speech and voice, is $0.14 a minute.
What each alternative does better and worse than Vapi
Retell AI
Better: one per-minute range covers the voice engine, the voice and the model, at $0.07 to $0.31 a minute, and each call is metered to the second. Worse: telephony and numbers are separate lines, and Retell bills "the entire duration of the call", silence and hold included (retellai.com/pricing, read October 26, 2026). See Retell AI pricing.
Bland
Better: "Included in your per-minute rate" are the model, speech recognition and voice, so the talk-time bill is one number: $63 at 5 calls a day. Worse: transferred-call time runs on a second meter, and Start caps you at 100 calls a day (bland.ai/pricing, read October 26, 2026). See Bland pricing.
Synthflow
Better: the contract includes "Implementation, onboarding, testing, training, launch support, and ongoing optimization", the work Vapi leaves to you. Worse: "Enterprise contracts start at $30,000 annually" (synthflow.ai/pricing, read October 26, 2026), and nothing about its meter is public. See Synthflow pricing.
Goodcall
Better: no meter to model. "We never meter minutes, calls or tokens," and "Spam and wrong numbers don't count" (goodcall.com/faq, read October 27, 2026). At 13 calls a day it costs $129. Worse: "There's no pause" for a slow season; dropping to the free demo agent "gives up its phone number", per the same FAQ. See Goodcall pricing.
NextPhone
Better: a flat $199/month (unlimited calls) with no per-minute charge, so its bill does not move from 13 to 26 calls a day. Worse: on that plan, NextPhone's compare table answers "Who builds your agent" with "You"; its team builds it on Growth, $299/month for unlimited calls (getnextphone.com/pricing, read October 26, 2026). At 3 calls a day Upfirst costs less, $59.95 against $199. See NextPhone pricing.
Phonely
Better: a free plan of "100 Free Minutes" to test a finished receptionist before paying, and $112.50 to $137.50 at 5 calls a day. Worse: Phonely's FAQ says that after a transfer, "post-transfer minutes may be billed" while its line stays open (phonely.ai/pricing, read October 26, 2026). See Phonely pricing.
Where Vapi is still the better buy
Vapi wins when you already have a developer and want to choose every part. It promises "Provider costs with no markup", lists Twilio, Vonage and Telnyx as phone-line options next to its own, and offers "Unlimited agents". Retell and Bland bundle the model into their rate; on Vapi you can swap it the day a cheaper one ships.
The free tier is also enough to build and test a working agent on one number with 4 concurrent calls, before you spend anything past the starting credits.
Which alternative fits which situation
Best for a bill you can forecast on a platform: Bland
Bland's single rate gives $163.80 of talk time at 13 calls a day. It may not fit a line where most calls end in a transfer: those minutes bill on a second meter.
Best for short calls on a platform: Retell AI
Retell bills each call to the second, so a 10-second hang-up costs 10 seconds. At 3 calls a day its usage is $18.90 to $83.70, depending on the model and voice. It may not fit callers who wait on hold: silence is billed.
Best for 13 calls a day without building: Goodcall
At $129, Goodcall costs the least of the ready-made receptionists in the table at 13 calls a day. It may not fit a seasonal business: there is no pause option.
Best for 3 calls a day without building: Upfirst
Upfirst costs $59.95 at 3 calls a day, the least of the ready-made receptionists in the table. It bills per call, so 13 calls a day cost $227.45.
Best if your call volume swings: NextPhone
From 13 to 26 calls a day, NextPhone is the only one in the table whose bill does not move: $199. Rosie's largest published plan, Growth at $299/month for 2,000 minutes, does not cover 26 a day, and going over moves you up a plan.
How to switch from Vapi without losing calls
- Find where your number lives. A number bought through Twilio, Vonage or another carrier stays with that carrier; point it at the new service. A "Vapi phone number" from the free tier or a package is Vapi's, and its pricing page says nothing about porting one out.
- Run both for a week. Vapi has no minimum minutes, so leaving the old agent live costs only the minutes it still answers.
- Stop the package renewal. Core is "Pre-paid, auto-renew" (vapi.ai/pricing, read October 26, 2026). Cancel before the next period if you no longer need it.
- Re-create what you built. Prompts, transfer rules and booking logic do not move between platforms. On a ready-made receptionist you re-enter them as settings.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is cheaper than Vapi?
Vapi's cost at a call volume cannot be computed from its pricing page, because each provider is priced separately. Bland's single rate gives $163.80 of talk time at 13 three-minute calls a day, and Goodcall's ready-made receptionist costs $129 at that volume (prices checked October 26, 2026).
Is Retell AI cheaper than Vapi?
There is no like-for-like answer from published prices. Retell AI's rate of $0.07 to $0.31 a minute includes the model and voice, while Vapi's hosting fee does not. Bland, a competitor to both, estimates production stacks at $0.11 to $0.25 a minute on Retell and $0.13 to $0.30 on Vapi.
Is there a Vapi alternative that needs no coding?
Yes: a ready-made AI receptionist. Goodcall, NextPhone, Rosie, Upfirst, Phonely, My AI Front Desk and Dialzara sell a finished receptionist at a monthly price that you set up rather than build. Goodcall costs $129 at 13 three-minute calls a day.
Can I keep my phone number if I leave Vapi?
A number you brought from Twilio, Vonage or another carrier stays with that carrier. Vapi's pricing page does not say whether a Vapi-provided number can be ported out, so ask Vapi before you print one on anything.
What is the difference between Vapi and an AI receptionist?
Vapi is a build-your-own voice AI platform: it hosts an agent you design and passes through the cost of each speech, model and voice provider. An AI receptionist is a finished product with a monthly price, built by the vendor and set up by you.
How these numbers were made
Every vendor price on this page was read from the vendor's own pricing page on the date in its Source cell and saved as a dated capture. Monthly costs use each vendor's cheapest published plan for the volume plus its published overage, at 3-minute calls. Vendors that hide prices stay in the tables as quote only. We do not test answering quality and publish no ratings.

Changes to these prices
- Upfirst: cancellation notice recorded as none. Its pricing FAQ says "You can cancel, upgrade, or downgrade anytime, no questions asked," the same strength as other cancel-anytime terms. Its setup-fee summary now reads "None stated": no page says there is no fee. No price changed.
- Retell AI: corrected the transfer term. Its pricing page says "Once the call is transferred, the AI voice agent fee stops. Only the telephony fee continues for the remainder of the transferred call." The index had said the whole call was billed after a transfer. No price changed.
- My AI Front Desk: the 1,000 monthly overage credits its pricing page lists as included ("Extra credits you get each month in case you go over your included usage") now count as 40 included minutes, so Business-in-a-Box covers 240 minutes before the $0.25 rate applies (was 200).
- Phonely: its Professional plan card says 650 minutes and its comparison table 750; the card is used. When two plans tie on their lowest cost, the one with the narrower range is chosen, so Phonely at 300 calls a month prices on Professional alone.
- My AI Front Desk: billing-term summaries (billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam, setup fee, contract, trial) added from the vendor-data billing-terms and contracts files and their captures. No price changed.

- Goodcall added from its own pricing page (captured October 26, 2026), with billing terms from its terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 27, 2026). Goodcall bills per unique caller a month; our arithmetic counts every call as a different caller.
- Dialzara added from its own pricing page (captured October 26, 2026), with billing terms from its terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 27, 2026).
- Upfirst added from its own pricing page (captured October 26, 2026), with billing terms from its terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 27, 2026). Upfirst does not bill calls under 15 seconds or spam.
- Added NextPhone Pro, Growth and Scale from its public pricing page. All three plans include unlimited calls with no per-minute charge or overage fee.
- My AI Front Desk: overage of $0.25 a minute (25 credits at $0.01) added; it was on the captured page but missing here.
