Bland AI Alternatives 2026: Voice AI Platforms and Ready-Made AI Receptionists, Priced
Published · prices checked October 26, 2026
Key takeaways
- Bland's Start plan bills $163.80 of talk time at 13 three-minute calls a day, plus transfer minutes and telephony (prices checked October 26, 2026).
- Transfers are where the alternatives differ most: Bland bills $0.05 a transfer minute, Retell AI stops its AI fee at the transfer, and Goodcall meters nothing.
- At 13 calls a day Goodcall costs the least of the ready-made receptionists in our table, $129.
- At 3 calls a day Bland's talk time is $37.80; Upfirst, the lowest ready-made option at that volume, costs $59.95.
Bland's Start plan is pay as you go at $0.14 a minute: $163.80 of talk time at 13 three-minute calls a day (prices checked October 26, 2026), before transfer minutes and telephony. At that volume Goodcall, the lowest-cost ready-made AI receptionist in our table, costs $129.
What does Bland cost?
Bland prices the model, speech recognition and voice into one rate. Talk time on Start is $37.80, $63 and $163.80 at 3, 5 and 13 calls a day. Build, at $299/month plus $0.12 a minute, lowers the rate for a monthly fee that a single business line does not use enough to recover.
Two things sit outside the rate: a "Transfer Time Rate" of $0.05 a minute on Start, and telephony, "billed separately, on your own carrier or Bland's at pass-through cost" (bland.ai/pricing, read October 26, 2026). The plans and terms are on Bland pricing.

Our arithmetic: each vendor's cheapest published plan for that volume plus its published overage, at 3-minute calls. Goodcall bills per unique caller; we count every call as a new caller. Taxes, setup fees and add-ons are not included. How we price.
Bland, Retell AI, Vapi and Synthflow are platforms: their rows are usage before the phone line, transfers and the work of building the agent. The other rows are ready-made AI receptionists at their plan price. Vapi reads "not computable" because its hosting fee excludes the model, speech and voice, and Synthflow is quote only.
What a transferred call costs on each
A receptionist that hands callers to your cell spends minutes after the handoff. Each vendor treats those minutes differently, in its own words:
| Service | After the call is transferred | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Bland (build your own) | Transfer time billed at $0.05 a minute on Start, $0.04 on Build; "BYOT customers do not pay transfer fees" | bland.ai/pricing, read Oct 26, 2026 |
| Retell AI (build your own) | "the AI voice agent fee stops. Only the telephony fee continues" | retellai.com/pricing, read Oct 26, 2026 |
| Vapi (build your own) | Not stated on the pricing page | vapi.ai/pricing, read Oct 26, 2026 |
| Synthflow (build your own) | Not published; scoped in the contract | synthflow.ai/pricing, read Oct 26, 2026 |
| Phonely | "post-transfer minutes may be billed" while its line stays open | phonely.ai/pricing, read Oct 26, 2026 |
| My AI Front Desk | The call log shows "AI call cost, transferred call cost" separately | myaifrontdesk.com help, read Oct 27, 2026 |
| Goodcall | "We never meter minutes, calls or tokens" | goodcall.com/faq, read Oct 27, 2026 |
| NextPhone | Its plan table lists "Per-minute charges" as "None" on every plan | getnextphone.com/pricing, read Oct 26, 2026 |
If most of your calls end in a transfer, the talk-time column of the main table understates Bland, Phonely and My AI Front Desk. It does not change Goodcall or NextPhone, which bill no minutes at all.
What each alternative does better and worse than Bland
Retell AI
Better: each call is metered "to the nearest second", and the AI fee stops at a transfer. Its usage at 3 calls a day runs $18.90 to $83.70. Worse: the rate is a range you pick into with the model and voice, and phone numbers cost $2.00 a month (retellai.com/pricing, read October 26, 2026). See Retell AI pricing.
Vapi
Better: "Provider costs with no markup" and any model in its catalog, so a developer can tune cost against quality. Worse: nothing about the call is one number: Vapi's own calculator gives $82 to $129 for 1,000 minutes (vapi.ai/pricing, read October 26, 2026). See Vapi pricing.
Synthflow
Better: the vendor builds and launches the agent with you under contract. Worse: contracts start at $30,000 a year, against Bland's Start plan with no platform fee (synthflow.ai/pricing, read October 26, 2026). See Synthflow pricing.
Goodcall
Better: no meter, so transfers, hold and long calls cost nothing extra, and "Spam and wrong numbers don't count" (goodcall.com/faq, read October 27, 2026). Worse: at 3 calls a day its entry plan costs $79, more than Bland's talk time, and "There's no pause" for a slow season. See Goodcall pricing.
My AI Front Desk
Better: a finished receptionist whose plan covers more than calls: "web chat, 2-way SMS, an AI-native CRM" next to its voice minutes (myaifrontdesk.com/pricing, read October 27, 2026). Worse: like Bland, it breaks transferred-call cost out on its own line, and at 13 calls a day it costs $331.50, more than Bland's talk time. See My AI Front Desk pricing.
NextPhone
Better: one flat price at any volume, $199/month (unlimited calls), so its bill does not move from 13 to 26 calls a day. Worse: at 3 calls a day you pay the full $199, and on the entry plan "Who builds your agent" reads "You" (getnextphone.com/pricing, read October 26, 2026). See NextPhone pricing.
Where Bland is still the better buy
At 3 calls a day Bland's talk time, $37.80, is less than Upfirst's $59.95, the lowest ready-made plan in the table at that volume. The gap has to pay for the build and the phone line, which are yours to supply.
Bland also keeps transfers free for one kind of customer: "BYOT customers do not pay transfer fees." If you bring your own Twilio account or SIP trunk, the transfer meter disappears and you pay your carrier directly.
Which alternative fits which situation
Best if most calls end in a transfer: Goodcall
No minutes are metered, so a long transfer costs the same as a short one. $129 at 13 calls a day, the least of the ready-made receptionists in the table. It may not fit a line where every caller is new and volume is low: at 3 calls a day it costs $79.
Best for staying on a platform with cheaper handoffs: Retell AI
The AI fee stops at the transfer, and calls are metered to the second. Usage at 13 calls a day is $81.90 to $362.70, depending on the model and voice. Telephony is extra.
Best for 3 calls a day without building: Upfirst
$59.95, the least of the ready-made receptionists in the table at 3 calls a day. It bills per call, so 13 calls a day cost $227.45.
Best for a bill that ignores volume: NextPhone
NextPhone's bill does not move from 13 to 26 calls a day: $199 with unlimited calls. Rosie's largest published plan, Growth at $299/month for 2,000 minutes, does not cover 26 a day. At 3 calls a day Bland's talk time and Upfirst both cost less than NextPhone.
How to switch from Bland without losing calls
- Know who carries your number. If you brought your own Twilio account or SIP trunk, the number is yours: point it at the new service. The inbound number that comes with Start is Bland's, and its pricing page does not cover porting.
- Nothing to cancel on Start. Bland states no contract on its self-serve plans. On Build, stop the monthly platform fee before the next cycle.
- Rebuild the call flow. Plan to re-create what you built in Bland's "Conversational Pathways" by hand. On a ready-made receptionist you re-enter greetings, questions and transfer contacts as settings.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is cheaper than Bland AI?
At 13 three-minute calls a day, Goodcall's ready-made receptionist costs $129, less than Bland's talk time of $163.80 before Bland's transfers and telephony. Retell AI's usage at that volume runs $81.90 to $362.70 depending on the model and voice (prices checked October 26, 2026).
Which AI phone platforms do not charge for transfers?
Retell AI stops its AI voice agent fee once a call is transferred and keeps billing only telephony, according to its pricing page. Bland charges a transfer rate unless you bring your own telephony. Ready-made receptionists that meter nothing, such as Goodcall and NextPhone, add no transfer charge.
Is Bland cheaper than Vapi?
Vapi's cost cannot be computed from its pricing page, because each provider is priced separately. Vapi's own calculator gives $82 to $129 for 1,000 minutes; Bland's Start rate is $0.14 a minute with the model and voice included.
Is there a Bland alternative that needs no coding?
Yes: a ready-made AI receptionist. Goodcall, NextPhone, Upfirst, Rosie, My AI Front Desk, Phonely and Dialzara sell a finished receptionist at a monthly price. At 13 three-minute calls a day Goodcall costs $129.
How these numbers were made
Every vendor price on this page was read from the vendor's own pricing page on the date in its Source cell and saved as a dated capture. Monthly costs use each vendor's cheapest published plan for the volume plus its published overage, at 3-minute calls. Vendors that hide prices stay in the tables as quote only. We do not test answering quality and publish no ratings.

Changes to these prices
- Upfirst: cancellation notice recorded as none. Its pricing FAQ says "You can cancel, upgrade, or downgrade anytime, no questions asked," the same strength as other cancel-anytime terms. Its setup-fee summary now reads "None stated": no page says there is no fee. No price changed.
- Retell AI: corrected the transfer term. Its pricing page says "Once the call is transferred, the AI voice agent fee stops. Only the telephony fee continues for the remainder of the transferred call." The index had said the whole call was billed after a transfer. No price changed.
- My AI Front Desk: the 1,000 monthly overage credits its pricing page lists as included ("Extra credits you get each month in case you go over your included usage") now count as 40 included minutes, so Business-in-a-Box covers 240 minutes before the $0.25 rate applies (was 200).
- Phonely: its Professional plan card says 650 minutes and its comparison table 750; the card is used. When two plans tie on their lowest cost, the one with the narrower range is chosen, so Phonely at 300 calls a month prices on Professional alone.
- My AI Front Desk: billing-term summaries (billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam, setup fee, contract, trial) added from the vendor-data billing-terms and contracts files and their captures. No price changed.

- Goodcall added from its own pricing page (captured October 26, 2026), with billing terms from its terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 27, 2026). Goodcall bills per unique caller a month; our arithmetic counts every call as a different caller.

- Upfirst added from its own pricing page (captured October 26, 2026), with billing terms from its terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 27, 2026). Upfirst does not bill calls under 15 seconds or spam.
- Smith.ai AI Receptionist Enterprise at 500 calls ($800, $2.10 per extra call) added from its pricing page, in a full re-check of every source page.
- Added NextPhone Pro, Growth and Scale from its public pricing page. All three plans include unlimited calls with no per-minute charge or overage fee.
- Smith.ai AI Receptionist: billing terms added.
- My AI Front Desk: overage of $0.25 a minute (25 credits at $0.01) added; it was on the captured page but missing here.
- Smith.ai AI Receptionist: billing terms added from its terms, FAQ and help pages (read October 7, 2026): billing unit, rounding, time billed beyond the call, spam billing, setup fee, contract and trial.
