Ruby vs Posh Pricing 2026: Virtual Receptionist Plans Compared

Published · prices checked October 26, 2026

Key takeaways

  • At 100 three-minute calls a month, Ruby costs $1,160 and Posh $630 (prices checked October 26, 2026).
  • Posh costs less than Ruby at every volume we priced, from 15 to 300 calls a month. Ruby's edge is in its terms, not its price.
  • Both round every call up to the next minute in their terms. A Posh blog post says a 90-second call counts as 1.5 minutes; the terms say 2.
  • Ruby's and Posh's terms share clauses word for word: the same liability cap, the same 14-day claim window, the same 3.0% card surcharge. No page we read states a common owner.
  • An upgrade binds Ruby customers for three billing periods; a Posh plan change starts with the next billing period.

At 100 three-minute calls a month, Ruby costs $1,160 and Posh costs $630, each on its cheapest plan for that volume (prices checked October 26, 2026). Both bill by the minute and round up, so the gap comes down to the rate per minute, and Posh's is lower on every plan.

Our arithmetic: each vendor's cheapest published plan for that volume plus its published overage, at 3-minute calls. Taxes, setup fees and add-ons are not included. How we price.

Both sell a plan of the same size, which makes the arithmetic easy to see. Ruby charges $720/month for 200 minutes, or $720 ÷ 200 min = $3.60/min. Posh charges $420/month for 200 minutes, or $420 ÷ 200 min = $2.10/min.

Where Posh costs less

Everywhere we priced. Posh costs less than Ruby at 15, 50, 100, 200 and 300 three-minute calls a month. At 100 calls Ruby costs $530 a month more, $6,360 a year, or 1.8 times as much.

The overage gap is wider than the plan gap. Past its 200 minutes, Ruby charges $4.40 a minute; Posh charges $2.10 a minute. Posh's overage is at or below the rate inside its plans, while Ruby's costs more than the minutes inside its plans.

At very low volume Posh has a plan Ruby does not. Chic is $65/month plus $2.30 a minute, with no minutes included. At 15 calls Posh's cheapest fit is $130/month for 50 minutes, against Ruby's $250.

Where Ruby is the better buy

Not on price: Ruby costs more at every volume in the table. Its case rests on terms and range.

  • Larger plans, published. Ruby's help center lists plans up to $7,875/month for 2,500 minutes. Posh's largest published plan is $1,900/month for 1,000 minutes.
  • No automatic upgrade. "While you're not automatically bumped up to the next plan based on your usage, you're welcome to contact us to change your current or future plan at any time." (Ruby help center, read October 26, 2026)
  • A published spam rule. Robocalls caught by Ruby's opt-in filter are not billed. Posh's terms and FAQ say nothing on spam; a blog post says screened spam calls "do not consume meaningful minutes" (posh.com blog, read October 26, 2026).
  • A ported number costs nothing extra. On porting a number to Ruby: "There is no setup charge, nor any ongoing charges from Ruby." (Ruby help center, read October 7, 2026)

Posh's counter is a trial Ruby does not offer: 7 days or 250 minutes with no card, against Ruby's money-back window.

How each counts a minute

Ruby's terms: "In all cases, Receptionist Minutes are calculated and billed in 60-second increments and calls are rounded up to the next 60-second mark." (ruby.com/terms, read October 26, 2026)

Posh's terms: "Service usage is measured and billed in 60-second increments and call times are rounded up to the next 60-second increment." (posh.com/terms, read October 26, 2026)

Same rule, different clocks around it. Ruby bills hold time and after-call work. Posh bills after-call work and stops at the transfer; its terms say nothing about hold. Posh adds a line Ruby does not need yet: "Any time the AI Agent spends responding to calls, texts, or chats will be billed as Worktime, unless the applicable Service Plan states otherwise." (posh.com/terms, read October 26, 2026)

The catch with each

Ruby

  1. An upgrade binds you for three periods. "Upgrades are effective immediately and apply to the then-current monthly billing period and at least the subsequent two consecutive billing periods." Downgrades wait until "at least three consecutive billing periods" on a level (ruby.com/terms, read October 26, 2026). One storm week can set your plan for a quarter. Posh's terms instead say: "Charges to your plan type will become effective at the start of the next billing period unless a future billing period is specifically requested." (posh.com/terms, read October 26, 2026)
  2. A 30-day cycle, not a calendar month. "You authorize Ruby to charge your payment method every 30 days" (same terms). Posh's pricing FAQ warns about cycles shorter than a month: a 28-day cycle "basically allows them to sneak in an extra invoice each year" (posh.com/pricing, read October 26, 2026). A 30-day cycle comes to about 12.2 bills a year, against 13 for a 28-day cycle and 12 for calendar months.
  3. A number Ruby assigned can go. "Ruby reserves the right to release or reassign any telephone numbers not ported back within three months after termination of the applicable subscription." (ruby.com/terms, read October 26, 2026)

Posh

  1. The terms and the blog disagree on rounding. The blog: "Time is billed in precise increments rather than rounded up to the nearest full minute, so a 90-second call counts as 1.5 minutes, not two." (posh.com blog, read October 26, 2026) The terms round up to 60 seconds. The terms are the contract, and our arithmetic follows them.
  2. A busy campaign can end the account. Posh may stop service without notice if "your advertising is causing extreme fluctuations in call volume that adversely affects service to other customers" (posh.com/terms, read October 26, 2026).
  3. A partial month is a month. You pay "for each whole or partial month during which your agreement with us remains in effect" (same terms), and fees are non-refundable.
  4. The assigned number is not yours. "You have no property rights to any telephone number or any other form of ID number that we assign to you" (same terms). Port your own number in if you plan to print it.

Who owns what

The two contracts read like one template. Both terms cap liability at a credit "to a maximum of 15 days or five hundred dollars" (Ruby) or "to a maximum of fifteen (15) days or five hundred dollars" (Posh). Both say "We shall have no liability unless notice of your claim is given to us in writing" within 14 days. Both carry the same sentence: "payments made by credit card will incur a 3.0% surcharge." (ruby.com/terms and posh.com/terms, read October 26, 2026)

Two traces point the same way. The copy of Ruby's terms we read on October 7, 2026 contained links whose tracking string held a mapcommunications.com email address; the October 26 copy does not. Posh's data processing addendum gives its privacy officer's contact as compliance@mapcommunications.com (posh.com, read October 7, 2026).

That is shared language, not stated ownership. Ruby's terms name Ruby Receptionists, Inc.; Posh's name POSH Virtual Receptionists, LLC. No page we read says either is owned by the other or by MAP Communications. Compare them as two vendors, and expect the same clauses on liability and card fees at both.

Which one to pick

  • Pick Posh if price leads: $630 at 100 calls against $1,160, and a no-card trial to test it. It may not fit if your call volume spikes with advertising, given its termination clause, or if you need a spam rule in writing.
  • Pick Ruby if you need more than 1,000 minutes a month on a published plan, or want a written promise that usage will not bump your plan. Expect to pay 1.8 times Posh's price at 300 calls, and an upgrade that holds for three periods.
  • Pick something else if per-call billing suits your long calls better: Smith.ai vs Ruby prices that trade.

At 100 three-minute calls, Go Answer, Specialty Answering Service and Answering Service Care each cost less than Posh, and so less than Ruby. Go Answer and Specialty Answering Service bill by the second, not the whole minute. Abby Connect, which pairs live receptionists with an AI receptionist, costs more than Posh at 100 calls; Smith.ai vs Abby Connect covers it. Every live option is on virtual receptionist pricing.

The two treat AI differently. Ruby: "Rather than using these capabilities in place of humans, we've designed them to serve our team of virtual receptionists" (ruby.com/ai, read October 7, 2026). Posh sells AI-enabled plans that mix AI and live minutes. AI receptionists on their own cost $129 to $695.30 a month at 13 three-minute calls a day, each less than Posh at that volume: see AI receptionist cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Posh cheaper than Ruby?

Yes, at every volume we priced. At 100 three-minute calls a month Posh costs $630 and Ruby $1,160 (prices checked October 26, 2026). Posh's 200-minute plan works out to $420 ÷ 200 min = $2.10/min, against $720 ÷ 200 min = $3.60/min at Ruby.

Do Ruby and Posh round calls up to the minute?

Yes, both terms bill in 60-second increments and round every call up. A 10-second call bills one minute at either. A Posh blog post says calls are billed in precise increments, but the terms are the contract.

Are Ruby and Posh the same company?

No page we read says so. Their terms share whole clauses, including the liability cap, the 14-day claim window and a 3.0% credit card surcharge. Ruby's terms name Ruby Receptionists, Inc. and Posh's name POSH Virtual Receptionists, LLC.

Does Posh have a free trial?

Yes. Posh offers 7 days or 250 receptionist minutes, whichever comes first, with no credit card, according to its pricing page. Ruby has no trial; it offers a money-back guarantee within 21 days or 500 receptionist minutes.

What happens if I go over my minutes at Ruby or Posh?

Both bill the extra minutes. Ruby's overage rate is higher than the per-minute rate inside its plans, from $3.30 to $5.40 a minute. Posh's overage, $1.90 to $2.20 a minute, is no higher than the rate inside each plan. Ruby does not move you up a plan automatically.

Can I cancel Ruby or Posh at any point in the month?

Both take a cancellation without a notice period, effective at the end of the current billing cycle. Neither refunds the rest of the cycle. Ruby takes cancellations by email or phone before the next invoice date; Posh asks for a written request.

How these numbers were made

Every vendor price on this page was read from the vendor's own pricing page on the date in its Source cell and saved as a dated capture. Monthly costs use each vendor's cheapest published plan for the volume plus its published overage, at 3-minute calls. Vendors that hide prices stay in the tables as quote only. We do not test answering quality and publish no ratings.
